Carmen Soliz is an Associate Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), specializing in Latin American and Caribbean history. Her work focuses on peasant politics, agrarian reform, rural state formation, and social movements in Bolivia and neighboring countries. She holds a Ph.D. in History from New York University (2014) and multiple advanced degrees in Political Science and Andean Studies from institutions in Bolivia and Spain.

Her research explores the intersection of indigenous politics and state-building, particularly through her acclaimed book Fields of Revolution: Agrarian Reform and Rural State Formation in Bolivia, 1935–1964, which won the 2023 Socolow-Johnson Book Prize. She is currently investigating transnational impacts of Bolivia’s National Revolution (1952–1964) on regional stability and social equity.
Key awards include the NEH Summer Stipend (2015), SSRC Dissertation Fellowship (2010–2011), and multiple grants from UNCC. She co-hosts the Spanish-language podcast Historias and collaborates on audio-documentaries about Latin American history.
