Ana Cabana Iglesia is a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC). She is a leading scholar in the study of Francoist Spain, focusing on social attitudes, rural conflict, gender dynamics, and the transition to democracy. Her work bridges agrarian history with gender studies, examining how rural women navigated authoritarian regimes and post-war transitions.
She holds multiple institutional roles, including co-director of the Juana de Vega Chair and member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Agrarian History Studies (SEHA). Her research has been conducted at prestigious institutions like Universidade Nova de Lisboa, the London School of Economics, and NYU. She has authored/co-authored influential books such as People of Order. Consent Faced with Francoism in Galicia (2009) and There Are, There Are. Peasant Women in the History of 20th Century Spain (2021).
Her research interests emphasize the interplay between gender, rural societies, and political regimes. Recent work explores women’s roles in wildfires, black-market economies under Franco, and everyday resistance strategies. She has secured grants including the 'FEMWEAVE: Bridging the Divide' project and led studies on pioneering female professors at USC.
Key projects include the Integral Study of the Colonizing Experience in Castro de Rei and Gender, Sustainability, and Rural Knowledge. She actively engages with archival preservation, notably through the Terra & Memoria Archive.
