Dr. Carmen Logie is a Full Professor at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, and holds a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Global Health Equity and Social Justice with Marginalized Populations. She is an Adjunct Scientist at Women’s College Research Institute and Adjunct Professor at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment & Health. Her research focuses on stigma, social determinants of health, and HIV/STI prevention, particularly among marginalized populations such as refugees, sexual minorities, and women living with HIV. Dr. Logie has authored over 250 peer-reviewed articles and co-edited books on global health equity and LGBT mental health.
Dr. Logie’s education includes a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her work spans multidisciplinary collaborations, including projects in Uganda, Kenya, Brazil, and Jamaica, addressing climate change impacts on health, stigma reduction, and digital health interventions. She leads the SSHINE Lab, a digital storytelling and mobile multimedia initiative.
Her research emphasizes global health equity, with a focus on intersectional stigma and its effects on healthcare access and mental health. Notable projects include mobile health interventions for refugee youth in Uganda and participatory theater to reduce LGBT stigma in Eswatini and Lesotho. Dr. Logie also hosts the podcast *Everybody Hates Me: Let's Talk About Stigma*, addressing stigma’s societal impacts.
Awards include the 2024 Impact Award at the International AIDS Conference and the CAHR-CANFAR Excellence in Research Award. Her grants total over 70 funded projects from CIHR, SSHRC, and others, supporting global health equity initiatives.
