Carmen Howard is a Senior Instructor & Regional Health Sciences Librarian at the University Library - Library of the Health Sciences Peoria, and holds a Clinical Associate position in the College of Medicine Peoria's Health Sciences Education & Pathology department. She has been affiliated with the University of Illinois Chicago since 2010, progressing from Visiting Project Coordinator to her current roles.
Education: Master of Science in Library Science (University of Kentucky, 1996); B.S. Sociology/Anthropology with Art History minor (Truman State University, 1992).
Research focuses on health information literacy, evidence-based practice in medicine/nursing, community engagement, and preservation of special collections. Notable projects include developing Spanish-language EBM guides and rural health outreach initiatives.
Grants: Lead or co-investigator on 14 grants including NExT5/4/3 (University of Iowa/NLM), Rural Information Connection (NLM), and Healthy Communities in Fulton County. Awards include the 2017 MLA Best Research Paper Award.
Service roles include chairing HSLI conference committees, co-chairing ALA preservation initiatives, and leading community engagement efforts. Active in professional organizations (MLA, ALA, HSLI).
