Carmen Buchrieser is a Professor and Director of the Unit 'Biology of Intracellular Bacteria' at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, France. She holds academic positions dating back to 1987, including roles as Chef de Laboratoire (Associate Professor) and Chargé de Recherche (Assistant Professor). Her research focuses on microbiology, intracellular bacterial pathogens like Legionella, and host-pathogen interactions, with expertise in epigenetics, gene regulation, and bacterial pathogenesis.
- Education: PhD in Natural Sciences (University of Salzburg, 1986), Mag. rer.nat (University of Graz, 1983).
Her research interests include understanding bacterial virulence mechanisms, genomic studies of pathogenic microorganisms, and evolutionary aspects of infectious diseases. She has organized major international conferences, including Genomes 2008 and Legionella 2009, and serves on editorial boards for journals like Molecular Microbiology and Virulence.
- Awards: Elected to EMBO (2013), LEOPOLDINA (2013), and multiple prizes for collaborative research and scientific contributions.
Buchrieser actively participates in scientific governance, including roles on the Institut Pasteur Scientific Council and the Fondation de Recherche Médicale’s council. Her laboratory studies intracellular bacterial pathogens, contributing to advancements in microbial pathogenesis and genomic research.
