Dr. Carmela Murdocca is Professor of Sociology and York Research Chair in Reparative and Racial Justice at York University, with cross-appointments to graduate programs in Sociology, Socio-Legal Studies, and Social and Political Thought. Her research examines the intersections of racialization, criminalization, and the social and legal politics of repair and reparations.
As a Senior Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto, and former Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University, she investigates redress mechanisms for historical injustices. Her work has been supported by SSHRC, the Law Commission of Canada, and Dean's Awards for Research Distinction in Social Justice.
Dr. Murdocca's scholarship critically analyzes institutional responses to systemic inequality and develops frameworks for transformative justice. She leads the Collaborative for Racial Justice initiative to advance research-policy connections in reparations discourse.
