Dr. Carme Pinya Medina serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology within the Faculty of Education at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). She also holds the position of vice-dean at the Faculty of Education. Her academic career spans since the academic year 2008-2009, with significant contributions to teacher education and educational research.
Dr. Pinya Medina earned her Teacher of Early Childhood Education degree in 2003 and Psychopedagogist qualification in 2005, both from the University of the Balearic Islands. She completed her PhD in Educational Sciences in 2012 through the Programme for Research and Innovation in Education. Her educational background forms the foundation for her specialized work in early childhood education and pedagogical methodologies.
Her primary research interests focus on teacher training, teaching methodologies, and teaching identity in early childhood education. She actively investigates educational innovation and itineraries of success and abandonment in vocational training. Dr. Pinya Medina's work bridges theoretical research with practical applications in educational settings, particularly through her involvement in multiple teaching innovation projects and development of teaching materials.
Dr. Pinya Medina has received recognition for her research through a validated research track (sexenni). She has coordinated the collection of Good practices in teaching environments at UIB and has led several institutional initiatives that demonstrate her scholarly impact.
As an academic leader, she coordinates internships for the Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and the University Expert Course in Higher Education Teaching Techniques. She serves as thesis advisor for the PhD in Education program and has taught numerous courses across Early Childhood Education degrees and Master's programs. Her research involvement includes membership in the Education and Citizenship research group and serving as co-PI of the project 'Teaching practice and the prevention of early dropout from vocational training: empirical approach and intervention proposal' (Ref. PID2019-108342RB-I00).
Dr. Pinya Medina is actively involved with multiple research structures including Early Childhood Education (GREDIN) as a group member, Educational Innovation and the Teaching Profession (GRIEPD) as a main researcher, and Research and innovation in vocational education and training (LABVET) as an experimental laboratory member. Her work extends beyond the university through providing training in educational centers across the region.
