Dr. Carme Pinya Medina is a full Professor in the Department of Applied Pedagogy and Educational Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), Faculty of Education. She has held this position since the 2008-2009 academic year. Currently, she serves as First Vice-Dean for Innovation and Agenda 2030 of the Faculty of Education. Her academic career spans Early Childhood Education teaching, Educational Psychology, and Doctorate in Educational Sciences.
Dr. Pinya Medina earned her Early Childhood Education Teacher qualification in 2003 and Educational Psychologist qualification in 2005, both from the University of the Balearic Islands. She completed her Doctorate in Educational Sciences in 2012 through the Research and Innovation in Education Program. She has accumulated a recognized teaching quinquennium (five years of teaching experience) and a recognized research period (six years).
Her research interests focus on teacher training, teaching methodologies, teaching identity in early childhood education, educational innovation, and success and dropout itineraries in vocational training. Dr. Pinya Medina is a member of the Education and Citizenship research group and currently serves as co-IP of the project 'Teaching practice and the prevention of early dropout from vocational training: empirical approach and intervention proposal' (Ref. PID2019-108342RB-I00) from 2020-2023.
Her scholarly work demonstrates consistent contributions to educational research, particularly in vocational training dropout prevention, teacher training methodologies, and the use of digital tools like blogs in professional development. The publications reveal a trajectory focused on practical educational interventions and evidence-based approaches to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
Dr. Pinya Medina has received recognition for her work through a quinquennium of teaching and a sexennium of research. Her leadership extends beyond research as she has coordinated 4 teaching innovation projects out of 14 in which she participated, co-directed the collection of Good Practices in Pedagogical Environments at UIB, and provided training in educational centers.
As an educator, Dr. Pinya Medina has supervised numerous students through their academic journey, particularly in Early Childhood Education programs. She has been instrumental in developing teaching materials and has coordinated the University Expert Course in Higher Level Teaching Techniques. Her management roles include serving as internship coordinator for Early Childhood Education Teacher studies at UIB from 2020 to 2022 and performing tasks in the University's academic management committees.
Dr. Pinya Medina's work is organized through several research structures including the Education and Citizenship research group, the Educational Innovation and Teaching Profession research group (GRIEPD) where she serves as principal investigator, and the Research and Innovation in Vocational Training group (LABVET).
