Dr Carly Welch is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Experimental Medicine at King's College London and a Consultant Geriatrician at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. She holds a PhD in Inflammation and Ageing from the University of Birmingham (2022), an MRes in Clinical Research (2019), and a Bachelor of Medicine (2011). Her research focuses on ageing mechanisms, particularly acute sarcopenia, frailty, and delirium, aiming to translate therapies to improve older adults' quality of life.
She secured a Wellcome Leap Dynamic Resilience grant as Co-PI through a King's College-Birmingham collaboration and received the British Geriatrics Society Rising Star award (2023). Clinically, she works in General Medicine, Acute Frailty, and Geriatric Oncology.
Research interests include musculoskeletal resilience, hospital-associated deconditioning, and geroprotective interventions. Collaborations span multidisciplinary teams addressing post-hospitalization recovery and age-related conditions.
