Carlos Fittante

Carlos Fittante is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Dance Department at Queens College: City University of New York. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the Peck School of the Arts (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee). As Artistic Director of BALAM Dance Theatre, he creates contemporary works blending Balinese theatre with global dance traditions across time periods.

His research focuses on culturally hybrid dance forms, with expertise in Ballet, Baroque, Balinese, and Spanish Escuela Bolera techniques. Critical acclaim includes praise from The New York Times, Dance Magazine, and Village Voice for his imaginative choreography and performances worldwide (Bali, Japan, Mexico, Europe).

Teaching specialties include Mask & Gesture, Movement for the Actor (Lee Strasberg Institute), and university courses like Asian Performing Arts and Music Theory for Dancers. His work has been showcased at major venues: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center, Jacob’s Pillow Festival, and international festivals.

Led BALAM Dance Theatre since its founding, pioneering cross-cultural performance collaborations.
