Carlos Corleto is Professor of Practice in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University's J. Mike Walker '66 Department of Mechanical Engineering within the College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. (1990), M.S. (1986), and B.S. (1984) in Mechanical Engineering, all from Texas A&M University. His research focuses on deformation and fracture mechanics, materials science, finite element modeling, failure analysis, and applications of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code standards.
With significant industry experience, Professor Corleto has served as Materials Lab Director at KnightHawk Engineering, Polystyrene Pilot Plant Technical Manager at Total Petrochemicals, and Engineering Advisor at Total Petrochemicals. His work bridges academic research and industrial applications, particularly in petrochemical plant operations and materials performance.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on engineering education innovation, including developing interactive lecture modules for teamwork skills, vertical integration of professional competencies across curricula, and using real-world industrial case studies in materials science courses. These educational initiatives complement his technical research on failure analysis and equipment integrity in industrial settings.
