Carla Molins Pitarch is a Creative Technologist, Experience Designer, Researcher, and Educator currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Science Communication as a Marie Curie Fellow at Elisava Research and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). She is part of the ChromDesign ITN project, working at the intersection of design, art, technology, and biology to communicate complex scientific concepts, particularly in molecular and cell biology.
Her educational background includes:
- MFA in Design and Technology (2019) from Parsons, The New School, New York, with departmental honors, as a La Caixa Fellow
- Design degree from ELISAVA, Barcelona School of Design & Engineering
- Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southampton (Winchester, UK)
Carla's research focuses on visualizing complex scientific concepts through haptic and interactive experiences. She creates immersive installations, including kinetic-robotic objects, physical visualizations, and museum exhibits that materialize abstract concepts like dark matter and antimatter. Her current ChromDesign project centers on molecular and cell biology, developing tangible instances of biological processes through design-driven approaches.
Her notable awards include:
- La Caixa Fellowship (2019)
- Brooklyn Research Fellowship (2019)
- Parsons/Verizon Design Jam: Most Critical Design Award
- NYCML 2018 Creative Technology Award for "Enlightening Dark Matter"
- Laus Bronze Prize for "Annihilation"
Carla has been supported by prestigious fellowships including the Marie Curie Fellowship for her doctoral research and the La Caixa Fellowship during her MFA studies. Her Brooklyn Research Fellowship enabled development of critical design methodologies applied to scientific visualization.
She actively collaborates within the ChromDesign ITN consortium, developing a science communication toolkit through Elisava Research's design infrastructure while exhibiting work internationally across the USA, Finland, and Spain to refine audience engagement strategies.
