Carla Juaçaba is a Visiting Critic at the Spitzer School of Architecture, City College of New York (Spring 2016). She leads an independent architectural practice in Rio de Janeiro, focusing on housing, cultural programs, and exhibition design. Her work includes projects such as the Atelier House (2000), Rio Bonito House (2005), Varanda House (2007), MinimalHouse (2008), and the Hospice (2014). She co-designed the ephemeral pavilion 'Humanidade' for Rio+20 with Bia Lessa.
Her academic engagements include lectures at Harvard GSD, University of Toronto, Columbia GSAPP, and workshops at IUAV di Venezia. She has participated in international biennales, such as La Biennale Di Venezia, and served on juries like the BIAU Bienal Ibero Americana (2012). She is recognized for her contributions to architecture, winning the ArcVision Prize (2013) and being nominated for major awards including the Schelling Architecture Award and MCHAP Prize.
Her research explores spatial innovation in urban contexts, emphasizing cultural and environmental responsiveness. Current projects continue to prioritize adaptive design solutions for residential and public spaces.
