Dr. James Mandiberg is Associate Professor at Hunter College's Silberman School of Social Work, where his research examines social enterprise models for marginalized communities. His innovative work develops economic alternatives for people with mental health histories through business incubation and cooperative structures.
Internationally recognized for developing the identity community development framework, Dr. Mandiberg has conducted comparative studies of social enterprises in Japan and the U.S. He currently explores autonomously organized homeless communities and credit union development for excluded populations.
With funding from the Japan Foundation and National Institutes of Health, his research informs policy on community-based economic development. Dr. Mandiberg holds a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology and Social Work from the University of Michigan.
