Carl-Filip Smedberg is a Visiting researcher at the Department of History of Science and Ideas at Uppsala University. His research focuses on social taxonomies, class divisions, the history of knowledge, and social sciences in Sweden.
His work explores the role of the Swedish press in shaping social divisions during the golden age of social democracy (1945–1976), as well as the use of social group taxonomies as 'difference technologies' from 1911–1970. He has contributed to analyses of educational history, taxonomic conflicts in Swedish educational research around 1945–1960, and the evolution of social categories in political epistemology. His publications include studies on the 'Dig Where You Stand' public history movement, which challenges shared authority in historical narratives.
His recent works highlight trends in historical analysis of media’s role in societal categorization, with keywords spanning History of Knowledge, Public History, and Social Sciences. Sub-fields include Media Studies, Historiography, and Policy Analysis.
