Benjamin Alpers is an Associate Professor and Reach for Excellence Professor of Honors at the University of Oklahoma's Department of History. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in History from Princeton University and an A.B. in Social Studies from Harvard University. His research examines 20th-century American thought and culture, with ongoing work on post-1960s societal changes.
Research Focus: Alpers specializes in U.S. intellectual/cultural history, film history, political thought, collective memory, and classical history. Current projects include a book analyzing 1970s interpretations of 1960s social transformations.
Teaching: Courses include HON 2973 American Social Thought; HON 3993 Film Noir; HON3993 History, Memory, Conflict: World War II Since 1945; HON 3993 America in the Sixties; and HON 3993 America in the Seventies.
He serves as editor of the Society for U.S. Intellectual History's blog.
