Carissa Henriques is an Associate Professor of the Practice of Graphic Design at Boston College, affiliated with the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Art, Art History, and Film. She holds a B.F.A. from James Madison University and an M.F.A. in Design: Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University.
- Expertise: Place-making, experimental typography, democratic design, and design for social impact.
- Recent Work: 2024 Venice Biennale exhibition catalogue for 'The Museum of the Old Colony' and permanent exhibition design for James Madison University’s Wilson Hall.
Her research explores urban palimpsests and the impact of visible vernacular on linguistic landscapes. She has presented at AIGA, Ashoka U, and other institutions, and received grants from the Innovate/Collaborate program and International Network of Universities. She teaches courses like 'Graphic Design 1' and 'Graphic Design 2: Type and Image.'
