Dr. Carine Farias is Associate Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at IÉSEG School of Management. She holds a PhD in Management Sciences from EM Lyon (2015) and brings professional experience from social enterprise development in Argentina and France. Awarded the APROS Best Doctoral Paper in 2013, her research examines alternative organizations through ethnographic approaches.
Farias investigates social entrepreneurship, intentional communities, and democratic organizing practices. Her ethnographic fieldwork explores how alternative organizations navigate economic pressures while maintaining ideological commitments. Recent publications analyze stigmatized artifacts in organizational contexts, transitional justice in South Africa, and moral narratives in reality television. Methodological contributions address researcher positionality in contested field sites.
Her teaching portfolio includes courses on social entrepreneurship, business ethics, and design thinking. As guest editor for Society and Business Review, Farias curated research on disorganizing cultural arrangements through entrepreneurial practices. Current research examines material culture in stigmatized organizations and relational approaches to artifact meaning-making.
