Candice Hopkins is a citizen of Carcross/Tagish First Nation currently residing in Red Hook, New York. She serves as Executive Director of Forge Project in Taghkanic, NY and holds the position of Fellow in Indigenous Art History and Curatorial Studies at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College.
Her research explores the critical intersections of history, contemporary art, and Indigeneity, with particular focus on Native performance, self-determination, and Indigenous sovereignty within art institutions. Hopkins' work systematically challenges colonial frameworks that have historically shaped art discourse and representation. Her curatorial practice emphasizes community engagement and Indigenous perspectives in contemporary art contexts.
Her publications reveal consistent engagement with themes of cultural appropriation, colonial economies, and social structures in art. These works contribute significantly to contemporary dialogues about race, art valuation, and institutional power dynamics within the art world.
