Can-ming Hu

Professor Can-ming Hu is a full professor at the University of Manitoba, Canada. He graduated from Fudan University in 1988 and earned his doctorate from Wuerzburg University in 1995. After post-doctoral research at NTT Basic Research Laboratories in Japan and obtaining his habilitation from the University of Hamburg, he and his group relocated to the University of Manitoba in 2005, where he became full professor in 2012. He has held leadership roles including deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Infrared Physics in China, regional councillor for the Canadian Association of Physicists, and member of the Commission on Magnetism (C9) of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics.

Research Interests

• Semiconductor spintronics and spin-based electronics
• Cavity spintronics and cavity magnon polaritons
• Fundamental magnetism and microwave technologies
• Quantum Hall systems and quantum materials

His 2015 breakthrough in electrical detection of cavity magnon polaritons contributed significantly to launching the field of cavity spintronics. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles, including book chapters and invited reviews, and delivered approximately 100 invited presentations worldwide.
