Camille Tessitore King is a Professor and Chair of Psychology at Stetson University. She earned her BA, MA, and PhD in Psychology from the University of Virginia, followed by post-doctoral research at the University of Michigan. After a career break, she resumed academic work in 1996, collaborating with Dr. Alan Spector on NIH-funded research.
Her research specializes in the functional neuroanatomy of the gustatory system, investigating taste nerve regeneration, cortical organization, and oromotor behaviors in rodents. Key areas include:
- Biological mechanisms of taste perception
- Neural plasticity following nerve damage
- Rodent models of gustatory processing
- fMRI and immunoreactivity mapping
Her publications consistently explore rodent gustatory neurobiology, with recurring themes of nerve regeneration, quinine response mechanisms, and cortical-behavioral relationships across 15+ years of research.
Awards and Honors:
- Hand Award for Excellence in Research (2004)
- Psi Chi Faculty Advisor Research Grant (for undergraduate mentorship)
- McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching (2011)
She maintains active NIH collaborations and undergraduate research initiatives, emphasizing experiential learning in neuroscience.
