معرفی
Barry Setlow is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida (College of Medicine). He holds notable academic distinctions such as the UF Research Foundation Professorship (2018-2021) and the University of Florida Fellow (2017-Current). His research focuses on decision-making processes influenced by drug abuse, cognitive aging, and neural mechanisms. Dr. Setlow has taught courses including 'Addiction: Neuroscience and Trends' and 'Functional Human Neuroanatomy' since 2014.
Education:
- Ph.D. in 1998 from the University of California, Irvine (advisor: Jim McGaugh)
- Postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University (advisor: Michela Gallagher)
Research Interests: Dr. Setlow investigates the neural basis of decision-making, effects of drugs of abuse on cognition, and age-related cognitive decline. His work employs behavioral, pharmacological, and electrophysiological approaches in rodent models.
Publications: His recent work includes studies on cannabidiol’s analgesic effects, oxytocin’s role in risky decisions, and intergenerational neurocognitive disorders. These publications highlight his focus on translational neuroscience and drug interactions.
Awards:
- University of Florida Exemplary Teacher (2016)
- J. L. McGaugh Award for Excellence in Graduate Research (1998)
Grants and Collaborations: He leads projects funded by NIDA, NIA, and other NIH institutes, exploring topics like cannabis’s impact on Alzheimer’s pathology and neural oscillation biomarkers in mental health. His lab collaborates on intergenerational neurobehavioral effects of anesthetics and vagus nerve stimulation for cognitive enhancement.
Labs/Teams: Dr. Setlow’s research integrates behavioral neuroscience, pharmacology, and neuroimaging, contributing to understanding addiction and aging-related cognitive changes.
