Camille T. Dungy

Camille T. Dungy is a University Distinguished Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at Colorado State University. She specializes in environmental literature, African American poetry, and creative writing pedagogy. Dungy holds an MFA from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro (1997). Her research focuses on intersections of race, ecology, and identity, with major works including Soil: The Story of a Black Mother's Garden (2023) and Black Nature (2009). She serves as poetry editor for Orion magazine and hosts the Immaterial podcast. Her honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship and NEA grants.

Teaching focuses include environmental literature workshops, African American literature seminars, and creative nonfiction. Her anthology Black Nature redefined African American environmental poetry's national presence. Recent work explores maternal narratives and environmental justice through poetry and memoir.
