Dr. Cameron Boult is a Senior Research Fellow at the African Centre for Epistemology and Philosophy of Science, University of Johannesburg. His research focuses on the intersection of epistemology, ethics, and meta-normative theory, with a particular emphasis on epistemic blame, interpersonal epistemic relationships, and the foundations of epistemic normativity. He holds a SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2022-2025) investigating norms of epistemic criticism and participates in the Epistemic Reparations Global Working Group funded by the Buffett Global Catalyst Grant (2023-2025).
His academic work spans theoretical epistemology, social and political epistemology, and normative ethics. Key themes include epistemic responsibility, collective epistemic dynamics, and the application of epistemic concepts to democratic citizenship. He has recently supervised postdoctoral fellow Nicolas Nicola (2024-2026) on a project exploring epistemic blame avoidance mechanisms.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as 'Intro to Philosophy,' 'Theory of Knowledge,' and 'Philosophy of Science' at Brandon University. His 2024 monograph Epistemic Blame: The Nature and Norms of Epistemic Relationships (Oxford UP) synthesizes his work on relational epistemology.
Recent invited talks include presentations at the University of Notre Dame Australia, University of Zurich, and workshops on epistemic reparations in South Africa. His research often bridges analytic philosophy with social/political philosophy concerns, emphasizing epistemic justice and systemic epistemic harms.
