Callum Walker is an Associate Professor of Translation Technology at the University of Leeds within the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. He joined Leeds in September 2020 as a Lecturer in Translation Technology and currently serves as Subject Leader of the Centre for Translation Studies (2022-present) and Programme Manager of the MA Applied Translation Studies (2020-present).
Walker received his PhD in Translation Studies from University College London in 2018 and previously taught at Durham University (2012-2020), UCL (2018-2019), and Goldsmiths College (2020). His primary research focuses on translation project management, examining constraints (time, cost, quality, scope), industry economics, and technology-driven workflows, culminating in his 2022 Routledge textbook. His secondary research explores cognitive translation studies using eye tracking and biometrics to analyze reader reception of literary style in translation.
His publications reveal a strong interdisciplinary approach bridging translation studies with business management, cognitive science, and economics. His work shows increasing focus on industry sustainability, information asymmetry, and the impact of platform economies on freelance translators.
