Dr. Maria Fernandez Parra is a Senior Lecturer in Translation and Interpreting at Swansea University's School of Culture and Communication. She specializes in Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting with expertise in translation technologies, computer-assisted translation, and terminology management. With qualifications from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Swansea University, she has been a freelance translator since 1994 and holds professional certifications from SDL Trados, CIOL, and ITI.
Her research focuses on practical applications of translation technology, formulaic language in specialized translation, and pedagogical approaches in translator education. She directs the MA Translation and Interpreting program and serves as Secretary of the Language Research Centre.
Institutional translation practices, terminology management systems, and translation pedagogy represent key themes in her recent publications. Her work examines how technology transforms professional translation workflows while maintaining quality standards.
