Dr. Caiyun Wang is a Principal Research Fellow at the Intelligent Polymer Research Institute (IPRI), part of the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials (AIIM) at the University of Wollongong, Australia. She has held various academic positions at the university since 2008, progressing from Research Fellow to her current role as Principal Research Fellow.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Materials Science from University of Wollongong (2000-2004)
- MSc in Materials Science from Nankai University, China (1991-1994)
- BSc in Materials Science from Shandong Normal University, China (1987-1991)
Dr. Wang's research focuses on the design and synthesis of advanced materials for energy applications. Her work spans multiple areas including:
- Development of conducting polymers and 2D materials for wearable and implantable energy storage devices
- Nanostructured catalysts for electrochemical reduction of CO2
- Asymmetric membranes for osmotic power generation
- Understanding the structure-property relationships of materials and electrode-electrolyte interfaces
Her research output shows a strong trend toward developing sustainable energy solutions, with particular emphasis on battery technologies, CO2 conversion, and novel energy harvesting systems. Many of her recent publications focus on flexible and wearable energy devices, as well as biomedical applications of energy technologies.
Dr. Wang has secured significant research funding, including:
- "Asymmetric Biomembranes for Blue Energy Harvesting" from the Australian Research Council (2024-2027)
- "Bioinspired Nanoionic Materials for Watt-scale Nano-Hydroelectric Generator" from the Australian Research Council (2023-2026)

She is actively involved in higher degree research supervision, currently mentoring four PhD students and having successfully supervised numerous PhD candidates to completion. Her research group at IPRI focuses on advanced materials for energy applications, with particular expertise in polymer-based energy systems.
