Caitlin Vandertop is an Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies. Prior to joining Warwick in 2019, she worked at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji and studied at institutions in Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, and the UK.
Research Interests focus on modern and contemporary world literature, postcolonial studies, urban culture, and environmental humanities. Her groundbreaking work explores the intersection of empire, ecology, and literature, particularly in Oceania and the Asia/Pacific region. Her 2021 book Modernism in the Metrocolony analyzes colonial urbanism in 20th-century Anglophone literature.
Selected Publications include studies on resource regimes in the Pacific, gothic fertility in Oceanic literature, and colonial trade networks. Her forthcoming work examines island literatures and commodity histories, particularly through edited volumes on Commodities and Literature.
Teaching includes modules such as Fundamentals of World Literature, Literary and Cultural Theory, and Modern World Literature. She supervises dissertations across her research areas.
