Dr Sara Wasson is a Reader in Gothic Studies at Lancaster University's Department of English and Creative Writing. Her research focuses on Gothic studies, medical humanities, critical plant studies, and environmental humanities. She has been recognized with the International Gothic Association’s Allan Lloyd Smith Memorial Prize twice for her monographs Urban Gothic of the Second World War (2010) and Transplantation Gothic (2020). She leads the AHRC-funded Translating Chronic Pain project, exploring flash writing and pain narratives.
Her work bridges Gothic fiction with medical ethics, examining representations of organ transplantation, genetic pre-vivors, and ecological grief. She has contributed to conferences, museum collaborations, and media discussions on Halloween culture and Gothic literature. Wasson supervises 9 postgraduate students and actively collaborates across disciplines, emphasizing ethical witness and collective trauma.
