Caitlin O. Mahoney is a Professor of Psychology at Metropolitan State University, actively serving on the Career Readiness Workgroup (2022-2024) and Leadership Team (2024-2025), with upcoming Faculty Fellow appointment at the Center for Educational Innovation (2025-2026).
She holds a PhD and MA in Psychology from Clark University, specializing in peace and conflict studies. Her research examines empathy, emotion, and responses to suffering through applied human rights work.
Mahoney leverages her expertise as program evaluator for The Auschwitz Institute for Genocide Prevention (AIPG), assessing human rights training for international leaders and U.S. law enforcement over nearly a decade. She co-organized the 'Public Health, Mental Health, and Mass Atrocity Prevention' project including cross-disciplinary workshops, Routledge anthologies (2021), and digital dialogues. Her community work includes psychosocial workshops with Twin Cities' Happy with Work organization.
Professional leadership includes eight years on the Executive Board of the Society for the Study of Peace, Conflict, and Violence (APA Division 48) and current membership in the Peace Psychology Education Group developing global teaching resources.
She teaches Group Dynamics, Motivation and Emotion, Positive Psychology, Family Systems, and Psychology of Peace/Conflict, while supporting colleagues through Career Readiness professional development initiatives.
