His research interrogates systemic drivers of violence through lenses of genocide prevention, identity-based conflict, and power dynamics, with emphasis on non-violent youth resistance in Uganda, traditional Baganda conflict resolution (Ekika system), and early warning frameworks. Work integrates humanitarian practice with theoretical analysis of ethnicity, resilience, and transformational leadership, particularly within Great Lakes Region contexts where he implements training for national atrocity prevention mechanisms.
Publication analysis reveals consistent focus on practical genocide prevention tools (2015-2020 manuals), youth agency in exclusion contexts (2018-2020 Uganda studies), and institutional frameworks for regional atrocity prevention (2015-2018 Great Lakes research), demonstrating applied scholarship bridging academic theory with AU/ICGLR policy implementation. Thematic continuity spans from 2007 intervention models to contemporary non-violence studies.
Dr. Sentongo's professional engagements prioritize consultancy over formal advising relationships, with extensive project leadership for USAID, UNDP, and Ugandan ministries rather than doctoral supervision. His operational focus centers on building practitioner capacity through GAAMAC and Auschwitz Institute frameworks rather than grant-funded academic research.
As AIPR's Africa Programs Director, he architects cross-institutional teams connecting AU structures, ICGLR early warning systems, and national prevention bodies across 16 African states, operationalizing the African Network through technical assistance missions and regional coordinator training programs that embed genocide prevention within existing governance frameworks.
