**Cade Andrew McCall** is a Professor of Psychology at the University of York, leading research in threat cognition, social interaction, and human-autonomous systems. He chairs the EDI Committee and participates in the Executive Committee of YorRobots. His academic journey includes a PhD from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2009), MA from The New School for Social Research (2003), and BA in English Literature from Macalester College (1996).
His research explores acute threat effects on cognition using immersive VR, autonomous system design for human interaction, and face identification in realistic contexts (ESRC Grant 2019–2022). Key projects include the *Lifelike Lab* and *The Underwood Project* (2022), a VR environment for studying ambiguous threat. Supervised students include Aaron Laycock, Yuka Spender, and Holly Hendry (Computer Science).
Recent publications focus on emotional inertia, face recognition under distraction (2024), and decision-making under threat. Collaborations span disciplines like robotics and clinical neuropsychology, emphasizing VR’s role in understanding human behavior. His work addresses societal challenges in technology ethics, mental health, and social learning.
