CHEN Yimao

CHEN Yimao is a Professor of Instruction in the Department of Mathematics at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China. He has been with SUSTech since 2014, progressing from Lecturer to Associate Professor of Instruction and now to Professor of Instruction in July 2024.

His educational background includes:

• PhD from The City University of New York-The Graduate Center (2012)
• MPhil from The City University of New York-The Graduate Center (2010)
• BS from University of Science and Technology of China (2004)

Dr. Chen's primary research focus is in Partial Differential Equations, a fundamental area of mathematics with applications across physics, engineering, and other scientific disciplines. His work contributes to the theoretical understanding and practical solutions of complex mathematical problems involving rates of change and spatial variations. As a dedicated educator, he has focused on instructional methods and mathematical education throughout his career at SUSTech.

Among his academic recognitions:

• Second Prize in the Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (2003)
• Best Bachelor's Thesis award from University of Science and Technology of China (2004)

Prior to joining SUSTech, Dr. Chen served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Hunter College, City University of New York (2012-2013), and held teaching fellow positions at Hunter College and CUNY. His early career included brief industry experience in software engineering before committing to academia.
