C. Roy D. Lancaster

Prof. Dr. C. Roy D. Lancaster is a Professor and Chair of Structural Biology at the Biophysics Department of the Medical Faculty, Saarland University. He is also the founding chair of the interfaculty Center for Human and Molecular Biology (ZHMB). His research focuses on understanding membrane-bound proteins and their roles in biochemical processes, employing crystallography, biochemistry, and biophysics. Key areas include membrane protein complexes in photosynthesis, bioenergetics, and eukaryotic membrane transport processes.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programs in Human and Molecular Biology, such as practical courses in Biophysics & Structural Biology and advanced modules on Signal Conduction and Transport. Supervision of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral theses is also a core part of his academic role.

Research interests span structural biology, bioenergetics, and the mechanisms of membrane proteins involved in electron and proton transfer. Notable contributions include studies on quinol:fumarate reductase, cytochrome P450 enzymes, and photosynthetic reaction centers. His work has been published in high-impact journals like FEBS Letters, Acta Crystallogr D, and Biochemistry.

Lancaster’s lab is actively involved in collaborative projects within the ZHMB and graduate schools, expanding research into membrane transport, signal transduction, and protein structure-function relationships.
