C. David Sherrill is an Interim Executive Director of the Institute for Data Engineering and Science (IDEaS) and a Regent's Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology with joint appointments in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry and School of Computational Science and Engineering. He holds affiliations with the Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Genomics and IDEaS.
Dr. Sherrill earned a B.S. in Chemistry from MIT (1992) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Georgia (1996).
His research focuses on computational chemistry, including algorithm development for quantum chemistry, benchmark database creation, and applications in drug design and molecular crystals. He has published over 175 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing theoretical method development and intermolecular interaction studies.
Notable honors include Fellowships with AAAS, the American Chemical Society, and the American Physical Society. He has received the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Award, NSF CAREER Award, and Georgia Tech’s W. Howard Ector Teaching Award. In 2017, he was recognized as Outreach Volunteer of the Year by the Georgia ACS Section for K-12 education efforts.
He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Chemical Physics since 2009 and has contributed to collaborative efforts in computational science and engineering through his leadership roles and interdisciplinary research.
