Dr. Byron Villacorta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Mississippi, where he is also affiliated with the Center for Graphene Research and Innovation. He holds an Honorary Fellowship at the University of Queensland's School of Mechanical & Mining Engineering and the Center for Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing (AMPAM). His expertise spans multifunctional nanocomposites, sustainable biocomposites, and electromagnetic materials processing. Villacorta earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Universidad Centroamericana (2005) and his Ph.D. from Clemson University (2013).
His research focuses on developing advanced materials for extreme environments, including biopolymers, carbon-based nanocomposites, and novel manufacturing techniques using electromagnetic energy. Recent work includes the creation of fiber-integrated metal-organic frameworks (FIMOFs) and cytocompatible nanobiocomposites for biomedical applications.
