Luigi Vandi

Dr. Luigi Vandi is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering at The University of Queensland (UQ). He serves as Co-Deputy Director of the Centre for Advanced Materials Processing and Manufacturing (AMPAM) and is an Affiliate of the ARC Training Centre for Bioplastics and Biocomposites. With a PhD in Hybrid Materials from UQ and an MSc from the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine in France, Dr. Vandi bridges materials science with sustainable development.

Research Focus: Dr. Vandi specializes in biocomposites, advanced manufacturing, and circular economy solutions. His work spans:

• Sustainable biomaterials (marine biodegradable polymers)
• 3D printing applications for neurosurgical training
• Thermoset-thermoplastic interfaces in aerospace composites
• Recycling of industrial by-products into high-value materials

He has secured over $9 million in research funding and holds 4 active patents. Dr. Vandi lectures in Aerospace Composites (AERO4300) and Engineering Investigation & Statistical Analysis (CHEE2010).
