Byron Fulcher is a Professor of Tenor Trombone at the Royal College of Music. Born in Cornwall, he began playing the trombone at age nine and quickly rose to prominence by winning the National Junior Solo Championships at twelve. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under Eric Crees before joining the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia in Spain. He later held principal trombone positions with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra since 2001.
Byron made his BBC Proms solo debut in 2012 performing Berio’s Sequenza V and has premiered works by composers such as Gyorgy Ranki, Marco Stroppa, and Dai Fujikura. He has performed with all major London orchestras under renowned conductors like Abbado, Bernstein, and Rattle, and contributed to over 100 film soundtracks including Gladiator and Harry Potter.
A Conn-Selmer Artist and Vincent Bach Trombone endorser, he has judged at the International Trombone Festival, given masterclasses globally, and served as Principal Trombone of the London Sinfonietta since 2008. He also performs with London Brass and has participated in numerous world premieres.
