Burkhard Boemke

Prof. Dr. Burkhard Boemke holds the Chair of Civil Law, Labor and Social Law at the University of Leipzig's Faculty of Law and serves as Managing Director of the Institute for Labor and Social Law since December 7, 1998. He has been a full professor at the university since September 1, 1997, and previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Law from 2006-2008.

Boemke's research focuses on works constitution and staff representation law, the law of temporary employment, and various issues of individual labor law. His work addresses contemporary challenges in labor law including digital transformation of works councils, virtual reality applications in formal works constitution, and regulatory frameworks for temporary employment. He has made significant contributions to understanding how traditional labor law frameworks adapt to modern workplace technologies and organizational structures.

His publications demonstrate consistent focus on practical applications of labor law, particularly in works council elections, virtual meeting protocols, and temporary employment regulations. The research trend shows increasing attention to digital transformation within labor law institutions while maintaining traditional frameworks of employee representation.

He has led significant research projects including one on Corporate-Compliance from 2010-2012.

He oversees the Institute for Labor and Social Law which hosts the Young Labor Law Conference (TJAR), most recently the 14th conference in July 2025 focusing on 'Challenges of Transformation for Labor Law.' The institute serves as a hub for labor law scholarship, bringing together young legal scholars from German-speaking countries.
