Dr. Burak Akkurt is a Researcher at the Department of English Language and Literature, Yeditepe University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He serves as Deputy Head of the Department since 2024. His academic journey includes a PhD in Anthropology from Yeditepe University (2021), an MA in English Language and Literature (2014), and a BA in English Language and Literature (2012).
His research focuses on intersections between literature and psychology, particularly Jungian archetypes in mythology, ecocritical perspectives, and cognitive effects of fictional media on children. He teaches courses on modern literary theories, mythology, and comparative literature. Recent work explores Norse mythology through Jungian lenses and ecological interpretations of classical texts.
Advising includes MA theses on ecocritical analysis of contemporary novels and shadow/trickster archetypes in modern narratives. He maintains university outreach through teaching and cultural projects, including early childhood English education and cross-cultural communication initiatives.
