Bupesh Prusti

Prof. Bupesh Prusti is a tenured professor at Riga Stradins University (RSU), where he leads a laboratory investigating host-pathogen interactions, particularly focusing on herpesviruses and their role in chronic diseases like chronic fatigue syndrome, long-term COVID, and multiple sclerosis. His research aims to uncover mechanisms underlying transitions from latent to active viral infections.

Previously, he conducted postdoctoral work under Nobel laureate Harald zur Hausen at the German Cancer Research Center and established an independent research group at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg. At RSU, his lab collaborates with institutions globally, including Texas Medical Center, Bichat-Claude Bernard Hospital, and specialists across cardiology, dermatology, and autoimmunity.

He emphasizes interdisciplinary work, attracting young researchers and bridging lab findings to clinical applications. The lab has patented a FDA-approved medication aimed at improving public health outcomes. Current goals include expanding modern methodologies in Riga and fostering collaborations to advance biomedical research.
