Buddhadev Jana

Dr. Buddhadev Jana is a Senior Lecturer in Materials Engineering at the Department of Engineering and Mathematics, Sheffield Hallam University, and a member of the Materials and Engineering Research Institute. He holds a PhD from the University of Strathclyde (2006) and advanced degrees from Bengal Engineering and Science University and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. His research focuses on tribo-corrosion, metallurgy, and metal forming processes. Dr. Jana’s work includes developing theoretical models for erosion-corrosion regimes and optimizing steel production processes. He collaborates with institutions like the University of Strathclyde and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Teaching responsibilities include modules on advanced materials engineering, metallurgy, and material properties. His industrial experience spans 9 years at Tata Steel Europe, where he contributed to product development and process optimization in steel manufacturing.

Research interests span tribology, metallurgical microstructure analysis, and metal forming processes. He has authored ~20 papers and a book chapter on tribo-corrosion and metallurgy. Collaborative projects include EU-funded initiatives under the 7th Framework Programme and ECSC. Dr. Jana maintains professional affiliations with the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (UK) and holds Chartered Engineer status.
