Bryan W Roberts

Bryan W Roberts is a Professor of Philosophy, Logic & Scientific Method at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), where he has worked since 2013. He also taught in the Part III programme at the University of Cambridge (2019-2022) and served as Director of the LSE Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Sciences (CPNSS) from 2020-2024. Since 2024, he co-chairs the LSE LGBTQIA+ staff network Spectrum.

Research Interests include quantum theory, relativity, thermo-statistical physics, and mathematical aesthetics. He explores time asymmetry, gauge symmetry, and boundary conditions in cosmology (e.g., the Edge of the Universe project). His 2022 book Reversing the Arrow of Time is a foundational text in this area.

Key Publications focus on topics like time reversal, Leibniz Equivalence, and non-self-adjoint observables, with recent work applying Noether's theorem to gauge dynamics. He has been awarded the Leverhulme Prize (2019) and manages an ERC Consolidator Grant.

Academic Leadership involves co-coordinating the Philosophy of Physics Bootcamp and supervising PhD students in the philosophy of physics. He advocates for open access through initiatives like the PhilSci-Archive and BSPS Open.
