Bryan Peeler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on the intersection of international relations and international law, particularly exploring how legal reciprocity shapes state behavior. He holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia (2016) and has prior degrees from the University of Manitoba and King’s College London. Peeler is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Defence and Security Studies and chairs the Manitoba Chair of Global Governance Studies. His work emphasizes distinctions between legal and strategic reciprocity, challenging simplistic realist frameworks. He teaches courses on international law, political theory, and research methods. His 2019 book The Persistence of Reciprocity in International Humanitarian Law is a key contribution to the field.
