Bryan Murray is an Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology & Management at Oklahoma State University. He holds a Ph.D. in Forest Science from Michigan Technological University (2013), an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Wright State University (2009), and a B.S. in Biology from Ohio Northern University (2007). His primary research focuses on forest ecology, spatial ecology, and applications of GIS/remote sensing in natural resource management, with a particular emphasis on ecological resilience, functional diversity, and wildlife habitat dynamics.
Murray has taught numerous courses, including Geospatial Technologies for Natural Resources, Wildland Firefighter Training, and Forest Health & Disturbance Ecology. He advises the Society of American Foresters Student Chapter and has led over 66 courses at Oklahoma State University since 2018. His research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) and others, addressing topics like Ozark glade biodiversity, wildfire risk under drought conditions, and virtual fencing for rangeland management.
His scholarly work spans over 14 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on hybrid sweetgum productivity, resilience in forest ecosystems, and the ecological impacts of ungulates. Murray’s contributions bridge applied research and education, emphasizing sustainable natural resource practices and innovative technologies like virtual fencing to address conservation challenges.
