Dr. Bryan Crawford is a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of New Brunswick. His research focuses on developmental biology, particularly cell-matrix interactions, extracellular matrix remodeling, and cancer biology using zebrafish models. He investigates how molecular events drive tissue architecture formation during embryonic development.
His academic interests include developmental mechanisms, tissue morphogenesis, cancer pathways, and extracellular matrix dynamics. Research employs techniques like confocal microscopy, molecular assays, and genetic models to study matrix metalloproteinases and their roles in development and disease.
Courses taught include Cell Biology (BIOL3043), Developmental Biology of Animals (BIOL3162), and Experimental Embryology (BIOL4182). Research demonstrates consistent focus on zebrafish models for studying tissue development, matrix biology, and cancer mechanisms, with recent work exploring polyploidy effects and hypoxia responses.
Laboratory activities center on zebrafish embryology, cancer xenografts, and extracellular matrix analysis. Collaborative projects involve molecular techniques for real-time visualization of developmental processes.
