Bruno Lefort is a Research Fellow in the Department of Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oulu, Finland. He holds a Doctor of Social Sciences (Eximia cum laude) from the Universities of Aix-Marseille (France) and Tampere (Finland), completed in 2014. His research focuses on Middle Eastern politics, diasporas, identities, and collective memory, with a particular emphasis on Lebanon and conflict-affected societies.
- Current role: Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Fellow (2017–present) at Tampere Peace Research Institute, University of Tampere, and currently affiliated with the University of Oulu.
- Past roles include Postdoctoral Fellow (2016–2017) at the University of Montréal and Researcher (2013–2015) at Tampere Peace Research Institute.
Research interests include the intersection of diasporas and conflicts, youth engagement in Arab Mediterranean countries, and the socio-spatial dimensions of identity. His work employs ethnographic methods, exploring themes such as memory practices, placemaking, and the negotiation of belonging in diasporic contexts.
Key publications include analyses of diasporic youth identity negotiation, conflict transformation through urban spaces, and the role of memory in Lebanese diasporas. He has contributed to policy reports on youth inclusion in Euro-Mediterranean contexts and co-authored influential critiques of diaspora-conflict linkages.
Awards include the Eximia cum laude distinction for his doctoral thesis. His research bridges anthropology, political science, and sociology, addressing contemporary issues of identity, marginalization, and coexistence in conflict-affected regions.
