Bruno Dupont is a postdoctoral research manager and researcher in Media Studies at KU Leuven, where he is affiliated with the Media, Information & Persuasion Lab. He serves as the research manager and institute coordinator of DigiSoc – KU Leuven Digital Society Institute. Outside of KU Leuven, he is also an Invited Professor and Research coordinator at the Brussels Institute for Teacher Education (VUB).
Dupont's primary research focuses on the intersection of gaming and gambling in contemporary digital media, with particular interest in developing frameworks for media education and ludoliteracy. His work spans multiple domains including digital media studies, particularly the convergence of gaming and gambling elements in online platforms; media education frameworks targeting both game developers and general audiences; digital literature and emergent media forms; intermedia phenomena in literature; and video game literacy and its educational applications.
Analysis of Dupont's recent publications reveals a strong interdisciplinary approach that bridges media studies, psychology, legal frameworks, and educational practices. His work consistently addresses the social implications of digital media, with particular attention to youth experiences and educational interventions. The Gam(e)(a)ble project represents a significant portion of his recent output, examining how gaming and gambling elements converge in digital spaces and what this means for adolescent development and media literacy. His research shows particular attention to methodological innovation, including scenario-based workshops, systematic analysis, and textometric approaches.
As research manager of the FWO-SBO project Gam(e)(a)ble, Dupont oversees a significant research initiative studying the convergence of gaming and gambling from four perspectives: media and technology, psychological development, legal framework, and pedagogical prevention. His work has implications for game design ethics, youth protection policies, and educational interventions aimed at developing critical media literacy among young people. His collaborative approach is evident through numerous co-authored publications with researchers across multiple disciplines and institutions, demonstrating his commitment to addressing complex digital society challenges through interdisciplinary research.
Dupont is actively involved with the Media, Information & Persuasion Lab at KU Leuven and contributes to the broader work of the DigiSoc – KU Leuven Digital Society Institute. His research team includes psychologists, legal researchers, and prevention specialists working collaboratively on the complex issues surrounding digital media and youth engagement. He has developed practical tools such as the Digital Game Analysis Protocol (DiGAP), which provides a guide for reflexive and transparent game analyses, demonstrating his commitment to translating theoretical insights into practical applications.
