Bruce Vogelaar

Bruce Vogelaar is a Professor in the Department of Physics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), located in Blacksburg, Virginia. He specializes in experimental nuclear physics with a focus on neutrino detection and dark matter research. His affiliations include the College of Science and key roles in large international collaborations such as the DarkSide dark matter experiment and the Borexino solar neutrino observatory.

Dr. Vogelaar holds a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology. His research emphasizes ultra-low-background detectors, liquid argon time projection chambers (TPCs), and the study of rare particle interactions. He has contributed to groundbreaking results in solar neutrino spectroscopy, geoneutrino detection, and searches for dark matter particles.

His work with Borexino led to the first direct evidence of the CNO fusion cycle in the Sun and precise measurements of solar neutrino fluxes.
