Bruce Haslem is an Associate Professor of Finance at Southern Utah University (SUU), School of Business. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from Indiana University, where he discovered his passion for teaching. Prior to SUU, he worked at Florida State University and contributed to a wastewater cleanup startup in the fracking industry. At SUU, he has restructured the finance curriculum with colleague Steve Evans to align with industry standards, adding four new electives and enhancing career-focused education.
His research focuses on the financial impacts of corporate litigation, venture capital dynamics, and investor behavior. Notable achievements include a groundbreaking publication in The Journal of Finance after overcoming initial academic skepticism. Haslem teaches courses such as Managerial Finance, Investments, Entrepreneurial Finance, and Real Estate Finance, emphasizing practical applications in banking, nonprofit management, and insurance sectors.
His academic journey highlights resilience—overcoming faculty criticism to achieve national recognition—while maintaining a student-centric teaching philosophy. Collaborations with industry partners and curriculum innovations reflect his commitment to preparing graduates for competitive finance roles.
